Description
Just like the DEORE XT, the new SLX M7100 series features 12-speed cassettes with 10-45 or 10-51 teeth, a dedicated SLX-level 12-speed chain, two- or four-piston brakes, customizable I-SPEC EV shifters, high-performance rear and front derailleurs, and 12-speed hubs and HOLLOWTECH II cranksets. Together, these parts make up a component group that is just made for all those who discover the real mountain bike passion in themselves and attach importance to an excellent price-performance ratio.
1x12-speed crankset
Of course, the new SLX 1x12-speed cranks are also based on the HOLLOWTECH II technology. Here, too, the DYNAMIC CHAIN ENGAGEMENT + technology with its alternately wider and narrower teeth as well as the special precision-manufactured tooth shape ensures that the chain is held securely on the chainring at the top, but at the same time is released just as easily, smoothly and quietly when it comes off at the bottom, so that safety and efficiency are guaranteed in equal measure. Thanks to the Direct Mount attachment, the chainrings can also be mounted quickly and easily and thus quickly changed for different use scenarios. In contrast to the DEORE XT, however, the range of chainrings is concentrated on the most used options with 30, 32 and 34 teeth. Crank arm lengths of 165, 170 and 175 mm.
Cassette & Chain
The SLX cassettes fit MICRO SPLINE compatible freewheel bodies and come with 10-45 teeth for the lowest possible gear jumps or 10-51 teeth for the widest possible range. Both feature HYPERGLIDE+ technology, which ensures fast, smooth and frictionless gear changes on upshifts and downshifts alike, contributing to an overall very quiet and efficient drivetrain. The cassettes have an aluminium spider construction, the largest sprocket is also made of aluminium, the eleven others are made of steel, which guarantees a balance of robustness and durability on the one hand and low weight on the other.
The SHIMANO SLX 12-speed HG chain
The SLX HYPERGLIDE + chain has been newly developed and has even finer, precision-machined contact surfaces to the sprockets and chainrings, especially on the SIL-TEC coated inner plates.
Shift levers
With an even wider range of adjustment in both lateral and rotational direction, the I-SPEC EV shift levers, which are integrated into the brake lever, can be individually adapted to all preferences, seating or riding positions or anatomical conditions. For 2-speed systems, the left shift lever SL-M8100-L takes over the change between large and small chainring. Thanks to the new RAPIDFIRE-Plus MONO technology, this shift lever only needs one control lever. By pressing the thumb, tension is generated and the front derailleur is pulled upwards, the lever is locked in this position. Another short press of the thumb releases the lock, the cable is released and the chain moves back to the small chainring. Both right and left shifters are of course also available in a classic clamp version.
Rear derailleur
The SLX also has two rear derailleurs in its line-up, RD-M7100-SGS for 1-speed and RD-M7120-SGS for 2-speed. Both guarantee fast and highly precise gear changes over an immense gear range and feature SHIMANO SHADOW RD+ chain stabilization technology. In addition, both feature rubber dampers and large 13-tooth idlers and tensioners that reduce noise levels for a more enjoyable ride.
